What the heck are razors bumps? Why do I get them? Why do I feel itchy a few days after shaving?!
Girl, we are going to talk about ALL of this so don't worry!
Guys I am talking to you too!
So, razor bumps, what are these annoying little... sometimes big things? Razor bumps are normally found along the bikini line. They normally appear a few days after shaving.
What is the proper way of handling my bikini region when shaving? ( Or any region on my body that is subjectable to ingrown hairs, like your axillary region (underarms) or chin.
Step One: Prep your skin at least 3 days prior.
This is for men and women, bikini or chin. To prep your skin you want to exfoliate to remove dead skin.
Have you ever noticed that you were getting razor bumps after shaving and some of them were filled with pus? This pus is from an infection. The infection may be from dirt, debris, or other microorganisms trapped underneath dead skin or buried in the hair follicle. So when that hair is removed, I'll use waxing as an example. The hair is being pulled up from the follicle so now if there was something holding on deep in the follicle can now seep into this new micro-opening.
This is one reason more with shaving than waxing it can feel itchy after.
Shaving and waxing are both forms of exfoliation. This is one reason you don't want to exfoliate prior to shaving or walking into your appointment.
Removing the dead skin prior to hair removal you are setting a good base for the new growth to come in. If there is still dead skin when new growth is coming in it will be hard for that hair to grow through the skin. This is how the hair gets stuck and forms ingrown hair.

This is my favorite go-to tool for pre-shaving/ pre-waxing.
I apply this to my skin right after shaving or waxing.
For my ladies dealing with PCOS, If I am ever dealing with a few ingrown hairs on my chin I will use this in place of my serums to keep my skin smooth.Step Two: Post-care exfoliation.
This is a great post-shaving or waxing product.
I bought this product from the studio I received my first Brazillian wax from. They put some on after my wax and recommended the product to me explaining why. (I'm hairy and my hair is thick, like two or three coming out of a follicle thick!) So I use the product on clean skin the next few days twice a day to prevent ingrown hairs from forming.
You can use this anywhere, personally, I never had to use it under my arms.
Another product that I am fond of is Tend Skin Solution. I have recently started leaning more towards this product after my Sugar waxing days because I do apply this product everywhere. I have never had any irritation from this product. I do apply this product to my underarms since it is a liquid. Please be wise, if you want to apply it around the "downstairs area/ your intimate regions." just do a little tap tap. It's sensitive and does not want to be smothered with anything that's strong.
I also use this product if I have an ingrown popping up. I apply just a drop to keep it at bay until I can do a proper exfoliation. I would typically do this either the next day or at night.Step Three: Moisture! Moisture! MOISTURE!
Let me ask you a question. When your hands or legs are dry and you want smooth skin what do you do? Lotion, right? So lotioning or applying oil is a way we help our skin feel smooth. Exfoliation and moisturizing your skin go hand and hand. They are great on their own but this duo together... Trust me, honey, they can't tell you nothing! Moisturing daily also keeps your skin feeling smooth and the two together will keep your skin looking toned.
Just be aware of the lotions you are applying to your body and the ingredients in them. For overall good skin health. You should exfoliate your body weekly, two to three times is recommended to help remove excess dead skin. You can even do this in the morning before getting in the shower and using a dry brush. I will post about dry brushing and its' benefits in a different post.

Tell me how these products work for you or what you use for pre-treatment.
✨Wishing you Peace, Love & Blessings ✨
